Amar os inimigos
Como amar um inimigo? Conforme o texto de Lucas (23:34) amou Jesus a todos aqueles que o perseguiram, caluniaram e cheios de ódio exigiram a sua condenação, que efetivamente se cumpriu. Eis o testemunho de Lucas:
"E, quando chegaram ao lugar chamado a caveira, ali o crucificaram, e aos malfeitores, um à sua direita e outro à esquerda. E disse Jesus: Pai, perdoa-lhes, porque não sabem o que fazem."
Aí está o exemplo do Cristo, no auge do martírio: "Pai, perdoa-lhes..." reconhecendo que não sabiam o que lhe faziam. Eis que o Senhor leva-lhes em conta a ignorância: não sabem o que fazem. O que existia neles era maldade mesmo. Além de o matar, quiseram humilhar o Cristo, crucificando-o entre ladrões e homicidas.
Mesmo assim, o Mestre ergue a voz na direção do Céu e os perdoa a todos. Eram sacerdotes, eram fariseus, eram doutores da lei. E, no entanto, não sabiam o que estavam fazendo, porque dominados pelo ódio, o terrível gigante da alma a que já nos referimos numa outra parte desta série, citando o professor Mira y Lopez.
Mais tarde, durante toda a Idade Média, a maldade se repete, quando continuaram torturando e matando, sempre com requintes de perversidade, isto é, queimando vivos os que lhes caíam em desgraça. E, naturalmente, consoante o espírito do Cristianismo, suas vítimas persistiram rogando ao Pai perdão para seus algozes. Mas será que eles, os novos doutores da lei, continuavam sem saber o que faziam? Sim, de certo! E muitos, ainda hoje, se julgam injustiçados pela própria História!...
Há alguns anos, caiu-nos nas mãos um livro de um autor para nós desconhecido, intitulado "Os Papas na Idade Média", de Geoffrey Barraclough, editado em Lisboa pela Editorial Verbo. E pensamos: deve ser interessante conhecermos a história da Igreja de Roma, porquanto pode existir aí um mundo de informações importantes, dado que se tratava do último volume de uma série intitulada "História Ilustrada da Europa". E de fato não nos enganamos. Apenas indagamos a nossa consciência sobre a razão pela qual tivéramos de ler tal livro.
Esse livro nos permitiu compreender certos fatos de um período trevoso da história da Humanidade e entender cada vez mais e melhor a conduta de Jesus ao expressar-se: "Pai, perdoa-lhes porque não sabem o que fazem."
Quando nos propusemos realizar, pedagogicamente, este trabalho relacionado com uma exercitação do Evangelho, é claro que objetivando um treinamento de auto-aperfeiçoamento com vistas à nossa purificação, não podíamos deixar de fora aquilo que mais difícil nos parece: o amor aos inimigos!
Se a história dos papas na Idade Média - numa extensão de pouco mais de dez séculos - testemunha-nos a presença do ódio no coração de homens que se propunham viver um amor que foi ensinado e exemplificado pelo redentor da Humanidade, obviamente ou o Cristo não foi compreendido ou o ódio aos inimigos é de um poder bem mais forte do que toda a excelsitude do Amor, o que não deixa de ser uma absurdidade filosófica.
Logo, o problema maior estava no atraso moral e intelectual do homem medieval, que não lhe permitia olhar para dentro de si mesmo, a fim de identificar e desarraigar o seu maior óbice ao exercício, desenvolvimento e ensino das lições do Evangelho do Cristo. De modo que, antes de pensar na continuidade abnegada dos primeiros apóstolos, tiveram as suas atenções voltadas para duas coisas muito perigosas: o poder e o luxo...
Reflitamos profundamente nestas palavras de Allan Kardec, dirigindo-se aos espíritas, no capítulo XII de "O Evangelho segundo o Espiritismo":
"Se o amor do próximo constitui o princípio da caridade, amar os inimigos é a mais sublime aplicação desse princípio, porquanto a posse de tal virtude representa urna das maiores vitórias alcançadas contra o egoísmo e o orgulho."
Somente com o Espiritismo se nos revelou o verdadeiro sentido das palavras do divino Amigo. Delas têm zombado os homens por não lhes permitir o estágio evolutivo em que se encontram - mormente na Idade Média - a interpretar o verdadeiro sentido das palavras de Jesus, que não pretendeu, segundo Kardec, "que cada um de nós tenha para com o seu inimigo a ternura que dispensa a um irmão ou amigo. A ternura pressupõe confiança (...)."
Esclarece, ainda, o Codificador que amar os inimigos não é ter por eles uma afeição que não está na Natureza. Consiste tal amor em não lhes guardar ódio, nem rancor, nem desejos de vingança.
Eis como nos adverte o Cristo, em seu Evangelho: "Se, porém, não perdoardes aos homens as suas ofensas, também vosso Pai não perdoará as vossas" (Mateus, 6:15). E ficamos a meditar, ainda uma vez, no que dissemos acima em relação ao período de trevas da Idade Média, quando os tribunais daquele chamado santo ofício se reuniam para condenar seres humanos à morte nas fogueiras, e em nome de Deus. Tudo em contradição com os ensinos de Jesus!
A propósito, examinando a Bíblia, no livro de Josué - aquele que conseguiu o estapafúrdio "milagre" de parar o Sol, que parado já é em relação à Terra, o que nos mostra a ingenuidade ou inocência do homem bíblico, lá nos detemos, um pouco, no exame do ódio contra os cananeus, tudo porque Cão, o segundo filho de Noé, responsável pela nação cananéia, foi pelo pai amaldiçoado, e por um motivo fútil.
Jeová, apoiando as razões de Noé, não ficou satisfeito com as vitórias de Josué contra os cananeus e autorizou a total exterminação deles, no que foi desobedecido pela nação israelita que, ao invés de exterminar Canaã, resolveu fazê-la tributária de Israel. (Josué, 17:13, e Juizes, 1:28.)
É deveras espantoso verificar quanto ódio, quanta matança, quantos massacres e quantas vezes a palavra vingança é repetida no livro dos livros!
É curioso que, no Evangelho, o Plenipotenciário divino nunca se refira a Jeová, Elohim, ou Yhvh nem a Adonai. Muitas dezenas de vezes repetiu a palavra Deus ou as expressões Pai, meu Pai, vosso Pai. E ele era insistentemente testado por escribas e fariseus. E os próprios judeus maravilhavam-se, dizendo: "Como sabe estas letras, não as tendo aprendido?" (João, 7:15.)
Logo, incontestável é a sabedoria e a autoridade do Cristo, não obstante em contradição com o espírito de ódio e vingança que parece reger toda a conduta do chamado povo de Deus.
Vale acentuar, ainda, o encontro do Mestre com a mulher cananéia ou cananeiana de que nos falam os evangelistas Mateus (15:21-28) e Marcos (7:24-30), que desejava a cura de sua filha possessa de um Espírito mau. E o Cristo encontra nela a oportunidade para mais uma lição aos judeus e à Humanidade futura de modo geral. Ele lhe nega o pedido, explicando a ela não ser justo dar aos cães o pão destinado aos filhos. E diante da resposta que ela lhe dá, naturalmente inspirada, o Mestre se maravilha e responde: "Mulher, grande é a tua fé: seja-te feito conforme desejas!" E no mesmo instante ficou-lhe curada a filha. E os judeus presentes não encontraram razão para censurá-lo, mesmo tendo ele dado a todos testemunho de que não ignorava a procedência daquela mulher.
Tudo o que pretendemos, neste estudo, é justificar a preocupação de Jesus com o amor aos nossos inimigos.
Nossas referências à ação má e perversa dos detentores do poder secular, na Idade Medieval, e à ação beligerante e vingativa do chamado povo de Deus na era recuada de sua história, tem como objetivo lembrar aos atuais trabalhadores da última hora - vivendo, hoje, sob as luzes do Consolador - que, em nós, a indumentária personalística atual bem pode estar substituindo a indumentária brutal ou estúpida do homem atrasado de ontem.
Amar os inimigos, os que nos feriram ou ferirem, os que nos perseguiram ou perseguirem, os que nos caluniaram ou caluniarem não é coisa impossível, já não é fardo tão pesado se, no exercitamento do Evangelho, nós reconhecermos efetiva e sinceramente, não apenas o preço (que nos pareça dor) mas o caminho e o portal de nossa libertação, que tem o sabor da glória!
Se estivermos, cientes, pela fé apoiada na razão, que Deus, nosso Pai, nunca permitirá que soframos o que não merecermos sofrer, não nos será difícil entender que o inimigo de hoje poderá estar representando o inimigo que ontem fomos de alguém, a quem devemos ter machucado seriamente.
Além do mais, basta ler cada item, cada frase, cada pensamento daquele capítulo XII de "O Evangelho segundo o Espiritismo", e sobre eles meditar para compreendermos o real sentido das palavras do Cristo de Deus.
Amar os inimigos não é ir ao encontro deles, abraçá-los e beijá-los. Amar os nossos inimigos, se os tivermos, ainda que supostamente gratuitos, é jamais lhes guardar ódio, é perdoá-los sem pensamento ou intenções ocultas, é nunca lhes opor obstáculo à reconciliação, desejando-lhes sempre o bem e até vibrarmos de contentamento, quando formos informados de um grande bem que lhes advenha; numa palavra, não guardarmos contra eles qualquer ressentimento.
Sempre que nos surpreendermos na emissão natural ou espontânea de um pensamento de amor, em favor de alguém que haja procedido mal para conosco, estaremos recolhendo, aí, o testemunho de um coração em processo de espiritualização. Que isto ocorra com todos nós.
Se porventura tivermos dúvida a respeito do vigor da Doutrina Espírita dentro de nós, de que modo conseguiremos dirimir tão amarga incerteza?
Bastará que consultemos a consciência, na intimidade de uma meditação para a qual roguemos a presença do divino Amigo de nossas almas, mais ou menos assim:
- Como estarei aos olhos do Pai que me observa neste momento?
- Serei capaz de trair o meu próximo, que em mim confia?
- Serei capaz de mentir, ainda que premido por imensa necessidade, sabendo que, mentindo, prejudicarei o meu próximo?
- Serei capaz de praticar um ato desonesto, conscientemente?
- Serei capaz de negar a alguém aquilo que estiver ao meu alcance realizar?
- E quanto àquele que se positive meu inimigo, em função de sua conduta contra mim, serei capaz de negar-lhe perdão?
- E em se apresentando ocasião, serei capaz de prejudicá-lo?
- E dentro do movimento superior do Doutrina a que me julgo pertencer, em me sentindo incomodado por um companheiro, serei capaz de contra ele guardar ressentimento ou aversão?
Diz-nos Kardec que "aquele que pode ser, com razão, qualificado de espírita verdadeiro e sincero, se acha em grau superior de adiantamento moral"¹. Mas, já estará isento da influência solerte da vaidade que não suporta censura e das paixões que incitam o ódio? Mais adiante, e no mesmo parágrafo daquele item 4, que se refere a Os bons espíritas, conclui o sábio lionês:
"Reconhece-se o verdadeiro espírita pela sua transformação moral e pelos esforços que emprega para domar suas inclinações más."
Enquanto estivermos situados na condição de Espíritos errantes, nunca seremos santos no sentido lato que se vem dando a este termo, mas convém, recordando Pedro em sua 1ª Epístola (1:15), que sejamos santos em sentido restrito ao termo em sua acepção inicial latina Sanctus, isto é, sempre dispostos a lutar com todas as nossas forças a fim de que jamais venhamos a sofrer censura da própria consciência por não sabermos impor silêncio às nossas rivalidades e às nossas discórdias,² permitindo que, em função delas, venhamos a causar dano à obra do Consolador.
Amar os inimigos importa também em zelar, portanto, pela respeitabilidade da Doutrina a que nos devotamos. Pois seria tristíssimo para nós termos informação de que alguém que simpatizara com o Espiritismo, sem ser ainda espírita, haja se afastado de nosso meio ao perceber rivalidades e discórdias entre companheiros.
Se amar os inimigos é evangelicamente grandioso, não deixa de ser profundamente decepcionante para a consciência afastarem-se espíritas uns dos outros por magoa ou ressentimento. Isso seria retorno ao nosso passado histórico, quando não dispúnhamos das luzes do Consolador prometido...

Love your enemies
How to love an enemy? As the text of Luke (23:34) Jesus loved all those who persecuted, slandered and hateful demanded his conviction, which effectively fulfilled. Here is the testimony of Luke:
"And when they came to the place called the Skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Here is the example of Christ, at the height of martyrdom: "Father, forgive them ..." acknowledging that they did not know what he did. Behold, the Lord takes them into account ignorance: they know not what they do. What was there was malice in them even. Besides the killing, wanted to humiliate Christ crucified between the thieves and murderers.
Even so, the Master raises his voice toward heaven and forgive everyone. Were priests were Pharisees were the lawyers. And yet, do not know what they were doing because dominated by hatred, the terrible giant of soul to which we have referred in another part of this series, citing Professor Mira y Lopez.
Later, during the Middle Ages, the evil is repeated when torturing and killing continued, always with refined perversity, ie burning them alive fell into disgrace. And, of course, as the spirit of Christianity, its victims persisted begging the Father to forgive his tormentors. But do they, the new doctors of the law, still not knowing what they were doing? Yeah, right! And many today still consider themselves wronged by history itself! ...
A few years ago, dropped us a book in the hands of an author unknown to us, entitled "Popes in the Middle Ages" by Geoffrey Barraclough, published in Lisbon by Editorial Word. And we think, should be interesting to know the history of the Church of Rome, because there may exist a world of important information, since it was the last volume of a series entitled "Illustrated History of Europe". And indeed not fool ourselves. Just inquire our consciousness about the reason why we had had to read this book.
This book allows us to understand certain facts trevoso a period of human history and understand more and better conduct of Jesus to express themselves, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."
When we proposed to develop pedagogically, this work relates to a drilling of the Gospel, is a training course aimed at self-improvement with a view to our purification, we could not leave out what seems more difficult: the love of enemies!
If the history of the popes in the Middle Ages - a distance of just over ten centuries - witness in the presence of hatred in the hearts of men who proposed to live a love that was taught and exemplified by the redeemer of mankind, obviously or not Christ was understood or hatred of enemies is a power far stronger than any excelsitude of Love, which does not cease to be a philosophical absurdity.
Soon, the bigger problem was the moral and intellectual backwardness of medieval man, who would never let you look inside yourself, to identify and uproot your biggest obstacle to exercise, developing and teaching the lessons of the Gospel of Christ. So, before considering selfless continuity of the first apostles, had their attention turned to two very dangerous things: power and luxury ...
Let us reflect deeply on these words of Allan Kardec, addressing the Spiritualists, in Chapter XII of "The Gospel According to Spiritism":
"If the love of neighbor is the principle of charity, love your enemies is the most sublime application of this principle, because the possession of such virtue is one of the biggest victories against selfishness and pride."
Only with Spiritism is revealed to us the true meaning of the words of the divine Friend. Them have mocked men for not allowing them the evolutionary stage where they are - especially in the Middle Ages - to interpret the true meaning of Jesus' words, not intended, according to Kardec, "that each of us has to his Tenderness enemy releasing a sibling or friend. Tenderness assumes confidence (...). "
Also clarifies that the encoder love our enemies is not to have an affection for them that is not in Nature. Such love is not to keep them hate, or anger, or desire for revenge.
Here's how the Christ warns us in his Gospel: "But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your" (Matthew 6:15). And we meditate, once again, as we said above in relation to the dark period of the Middle Ages, when the courts that called holy office gathered to condemn human beings to death at the stake, and in the name of God. All in contradiction with the teachings of Jesus!
Incidentally, looking at the Bible, in the book of Joshua - who got the preposterous "miracle" to stop the Sun, which is now standing on the Earth, which shows the naivety or innocence of biblical man, we stop there, rather, the examination of hatred against the Canaanites, all because Ham, the second son of Noah, responsible for the nation Canaan, was cursed by his father, and for a reason futile.
Jehovah, supporting the reasons of Noah, was not satisfied with the victories of Joshua against the Canaanites and authorized the total extermination of them, which was disobeyed by the Israeli nation that instead of exterminating Canaan, decided to make it tax of Israel. (Joshua 17:13 and Judges 1:28.)
It is truly amazing how much hatred check, how much bloodshed, massacres and how many times the word revenge is repeated in the book of books!
It is curious that in the Gospel, the divine Plenipotentiary never refers to Jehovah, Elohim, Adonai or Yahweh neither. Many dozens of times repeated the word God or the terms Father, my Father, your Father and he was repeatedly tested by scribes and Pharisees. And the very Jews marveled, saying, "How do you know these letters, having never learned?" (John 7:15.)
Therefore, it is indisputable wisdom and authority of Christ, notwithstanding contrary to the spirit of hatred and revenge that seems to govern the conduct of all God's people called.
It is worth emphasizing, though, the meeting of the Master with the Canaanite woman or cananeiana tell us that the evangelists Matthew (15:21-28) and Mark (7:24-30), he wanted the healing of her daughter possessed of a spirit bad. And therein lies the Christ the opportunity for one more lesson to the Jews and Humanity future in general. He denies the request, explaining it is not fair to the dogs bread for the children. And before the answer she gives, naturally inspired, and wonder if the Master replies: "Woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as you wish!" And immediately got him healed her daughter. And these Jews found no reason to blame him, even though he given any testimony that did not ignore the merits of that woman.
All I want, in this study, is to justify the concern of Jesus to love our enemies.
Our references to evil and perverse action of holders of secular power in the Middle Ages, and action belligerent and vengeful called the people of God was indented in its history, aims to remind current workers last minute - living today under the lights of the Comforter - which, for us, the personalistic current attire may well be replacing the clothing brutal or stupid man late yesterday.
Love your enemies, those who have hurt us or hurt, those who persecuted us or persecute those who slandered us or slander is not impossible thing, is not so burdensome if, in exercitamento the Gospel, we effectively recognize and sincerely, not just the price (which seems in pain) but the path and release our portal, which has the flavor of glory!
If we are, aware, supported by faith in reason, that God our Father will never allow us to suffer what does not deserve to suffer, we will not be difficult to understand that the enemy today may be representing the enemy who yesterday went from someone who we must take seriously hurt.
Moreover, just read each item, every sentence, every thought that chapter XII of "The Gospel According to Spiritism" and meditate on them to understand the real meaning of Christ's words of God.
Loving your enemies is not going to meet them, hug them and kiss them. Loving our enemies, if we still supposedly free, it is hatred never keep them, is to forgive them without thought or hidden intentions, is never oppose them obstacle to reconciliation, wishing them well and to always vibrate with joy, when we informed them that much good has been furnished in a word, do not keep any grudge against them.
Whenever be surprised at the natural or spontaneous emission of a thought of love in favor of someone there done wrong to us, we will be gathering, then, the testimony of a heart in the process of spiritualization. That this happens to all of us.
If perhaps we have doubts about the strength of Spiritism within us, how able to resolve uncertainty so bitter?
Suffice to inquire consciousness, the intimacy of a meditation which plead for the presence of the divine Friend of our souls, more or less like this:
As will be the eyes of the Father who is watching me right now?
Will I be able to betray my neighbor, who trusts in me?
Will I be able to lie, though pressed by immense need, knowing that lying harm you my neighbor?
Will I be able to commit any dishonest act, consciously?
Will I be able to deny someone what is in my power to accomplish?
And as for that which is positive my enemy, because of his conduct against me, I will be able to deny him forgiveness?
And on occasion presenting itself, I'll be able to harm him?
And inside the top of the Doctrine movement to which I belong I believe in feeling bothered by a teammate, I'll be able to hold a grudge against him or dislike?
How many other questions related here we align our intentions sincere spiritual renewal in order to feel increasingly enriched positive traits in your personality! That desire to look deep inside ourselves and realize no more worrying telltale signs of the possibility of new precipitation falls in disastrous!
Kardec tells us that "he who can be rightly described as a true and sincere spirit, finds himself in a higher degree of moral advancement" ¹. But, now be free of the influence solerte vanity that does not support censorship and passions that incite hatred? Further, and in the same paragraph that item 4, which refers to Good spiritualists, the sage from Lyon concludes:
"It is recognized for its true spirit and moral transformation by employing effort to tame their evil inclinations."
While we are located on the condition of wandering spirits, never be saints in the broadest sense it is giving to this term, but should, recalling Peter in his 1st epistle (1:15), to be holy in the strict sense of the term in its original meaning Latin Sanctus, that is always willing to fight with all our strength so that we will not suffer censorship of his conscience for not knowing impose silence on our rivalries and our disagreements, allowing ², according to them, we will cause damage to the work of the Comforter.
Loving your enemies is also important to ensure, therefore, the doctrine of respectability to which we devote ourselves. For it would be very sad for us to have information that someone who sympathized with Spiritualism, even without being spirit, there away from our midst to realize rivalries and disagreements between partners.
If loving enemies is evangelically grand, it remains deeply disappointing to consciousness move away from each other by spiritualists hurt or resentment. That would be a return to our historical past, when we did not have lights Comforter promised ...
