O egoísmo

“A estes doze enviou Jesus, dando-lhes as seguintes ordens: Não vos desvieis para a estrada das nações, e não entreis em cidade samaritana; mas ide antes continuamente às ovelhas perdidas da casa de Israel” - Mateus, cap. 10, vs. 5 e 6

Chama a atenção o fato de Jesus recomendar aos discípulos “não pegarem a estrada das nações”, em outras versões consta a instrução “para não irem aos gentios”. Acrescenta - “não entreis em cidade samaritana”. Por que a preferência para “as ovelhas perdidas da casa de Israel?” Há quem entenda que Israel era o povo escolhido e por isso tinha a preferência. Mas se Jesus, em outra parte do evangelho afirma que “das ovelhas que o Pai Lhe confiou nenhuma se perderá”, e sabemos que essas “ovelhas” são a humanidade inteira; e ainda Ele prevê que haverá “um só rebanho e um só pastor”, como entender o texto citado de início?
Certamente, no início da tarefa dos apóstolos eles ainda não estavam preparados para divulgar os ensinos em outras nações, onde, por certo, as dificuldades seriam maiores. Era necessário um preparo, um treinamento, e para isso era preciso começar “pelas ovelhas perdidas da casa de Israel”, ou seja, em suas próprias cidades, onde havia melhores possibilidades de êxito. Mais tarde, Jesus chama Paulo de Tarso, na estrada de Damasco. Paulo recebe a tarefa de ir aos gentios, tarefa difícil, mas ele estava preparado. Conhecia bem a Lei, sabia falar vários idiomas, estava preparado para a missão.

Isto nos leva a refletir que, para realizar tarefas importantes, precisamos nos preparar devidamente, Se não estamos em condições de realizar trabalhos de maior vulto, devemos realizar os encargos menores, mais compatíveis com nossas possibilidades, enquanto vamos nos exercitando para, um dia, desenvolver trabalhos de mais significado. Se estou com minha caneca vazia, não consigo dar de beber ao meu próximo.

Se ainda não consegui certo equilíbrio, harmonia interior, convicção no que creio e falo, como passar uma mensagem de esperança, de confiança e de bom ânimo ao meu semelhante? As pessoas demonstram dificuldades para os trabalhos pequenos, os chamados “servicinhos”, e que são muito importantes. E todos temos uma tarefa importante, difícil, que é vencer a nós mesmos. Nossas paixões inferiores, o melindre, a dificuldade de relacionamento, o orgulho, o egoísmo.

Na verdade, nossa tarefa mais importante, e mais difícil, é nossa própria transformação para melhor. Mudar a nós mesmos, afeiçoando-nos aos ensinos que já aceitamos teoricamente, esse o trabalho difícil. Primeiro requer humildade para reconhecer que precisamos mudar. Se o doente não se reconhece como tal, não procura o médico. Conseqüente, não se trata, e a enfermidade não é debelada. Ensinamento muito claro do Espiritismo é este: Todos necessitamos de evolução espiritual, subir os degraus da escada do progresso.

Estamos num mundo pouco evoluído, e somos Espíritos que estamos muito longe dos patamares mais elevados da escala espiritual. Entretanto, mesmo com a clareza dos ensinamentos, muitos, ao que parece, se julgam sábios e bons, senão perfeitos, pelo menos quase. Ouvíamos há poucos dias uma irmã, espírita, que conhece a Doutrina, mas não participa de nenhum grupo de trabalho, não frequenta centro espírita, porque os dirigentes, os expositores, os que militam na Doutrina, no entender dela, não estão em condições de divulgarem os ensinamentos, A pessoa exige perfeição dos outros, mas não reflete que ela também carrega imperfeições.

Se quero chegar a um determinado ponto de uma cidade que não conheço, e se peço informação a alguém, por telefone, para que ela possa me orientar, necessito dizer a ela onde me encontro. Se eu não sei onde estou, fica difícil o outro me ensinar o caminho. Se não reconheço minhas necessidades evolutivas, fica difícil realizar mudanças no meu íntimo. A subida da escada evolutiva é difícil porque além de nossas limitações, da bagagem que trazemos do passado (o inconsciente?), recebemos as influências do meio em que atuamos, influências negativas porque a maioria também é pouco espiritualizada.

Essa influência, como sabemos, vem não só dos companheiros de jornada terrena, mas também do plano espiritual. Para vencermos os leões do orgulho e do egoísmo temos que travar verdadeira batalha conosco mesmo.

Certa feita alguém perguntou ao Francisco C. Xavier se ele temia alguma coisa e ele respondeu que sim. Temia os monstros que temos de vencer e que estão em nós mesmos: são as paixões inferiores. As tentações do mundo existem porque encontram ressonância em nós. Na pergunta 913 de O Livro dos Espíritos, Kardec indaga qual o vício mais radical, isto é, que tem mais raízes, e conseqüentemente mais difícil de ser erradicado.

 Resposta: o egoísmo.

 E como combater o egoísmo? Atacando os filhos dele, ou seja, a impaciência, o desejo de privilégios, o melindre, a intolerância, a dificuldade de aceitar as outras pessoas como são. Devemos entrar na fila como todos, sem disputar tratamentos especiais, não nos consideramos melhores, nem mais sábios do que os outros. “Saber que não sabemos”, conforme falou o sábio da antiguidade.

Se sabemos um pouquinho, isto é quase nada face ao muito que ainda precisamos saber. Os instrutores espirituais ensinam que, para combater o egoísmo, devemos cultivar as virtudes opostas a ele, ou seja, o altruísmo, o desapego, a humildade, a tolerância. Aprendendo a amar estaremos combatendo o egoísmo. Necessário perseverança, continuidade do esforço, paulatinamente, como uma escada que se sobre degrau a degrau. Façamos como ensina Santo Agostinho: levantamentos diários, para verificar se estamos melhorando. Lembra André Luiz: “O dever do espírita é tornar-se progressivamente melhor. Útil, assim, verificar, de quando em quando, com rigoroso exame pessoal, a nossa verdadeira situação íntima. Espírita que não progride durante três anos sucessivos permanece estacionário”.

Certainly, at the beginning of the task of the Apostles they were not prepared to disclose the teachings in other nations, where, of course, the difficulties would be greater. Was needed preparation, training, and it was necessary to get "the lost sheep of Israel", ie, in their own cities, where there were better chances of success. Later, Jesus called Paul of Tarsus on the Damascus road. Paul is given the task to go to the Gentiles, difficult task, but he was prepared.
