Surgem, aqui e ali, aqueles que negam o livre arbítrio, alegando que a pessoa no mundo é tão independente, quanto o pássaro no alçapão.

E, justificando a assertiva, mencionam a junção compulsória do espírito ao veiculo carnal, os constrangimentos da parentela, as convenções sociais, as preocupações incessantes na preservação da energia corpórea, as imposições do trabalho e a obediência natural aos regulamentos constituídos para a garantia da ordem terrestre, esquecendo-se de que não há escola sem disciplina.

Certamente, todos os patrimônios da civilização foram erigidos pelas criaturas que usaram a própria liberdade na exaltação do bem, no entanto, para fixar as realidades do livre arbítrio, examinemos o reverso do quadro.

Reflitamos, ainda que superficialmente, em nossos irmãos menos felizes, para recolher-lhes a dolorosa lição.

Pensemos no desencanto daqueles que amontoaram moedas, por longo tempo, acumulando o suor dos semelhantes, em louvor da própria avareza, e sentem a aproximação da morte, sem migalha de luz que lhes mitigue as aflições nas trevas...

Imaginemos o suplício dos que trocaram veneráveis encargos por fantasiosos enganos, a despertarem no crepúsculo da existência, qual se fossem arremessados, sem perceber, à secura asfixiante de escabroso deserto.

Ponderemos a tortura dos que abusaram da inteligência, reconhecendo, à margem da sepultura, os deprimentes resultados do desprezo com que espezinharam a dignidade humana...

Consideremos o martírio dos que desvirtuaram a fé religiosa, anulando-se no isolamento improdutivo, ao repararem, no término da estância terrestre, que apenas disputaram a esterilidade do coração.

Meditemos no remorso dos que se renderam à delinqüência, hipnotizados pela falsa adoração a si mesmos, acordando abatidos e segregados no fundo das penitenciárias de sofrimento...

Ninguém pode negar que todos eles, imanizados ao cativeiro da angústia, eram livres... Conquanto os empeços do aprendizado na experiência física, eram livres para construir e educar, entender e servir.

Eis porque a Doutrina Espírita fulge, da atualidade, diante da mente humana, auxiliando-nos a descobrir os Estatutos Divinos, funcionando em nós próprios, no foro da consciência, a fim de aprendermos que a liberdade de fazer o que se quer está condicionada à liberdade de fazer o que se deve.

Estudemos os princípios da reencarnação, na lei de causa e efeito, à luz da justiça e da misericórdia de Deus e perceberemos que mesmo encarcerados agora em constringentes obrigações, estamos intimamente livres para aceitar com respeito e humildade as determinações da vida, edificando o espírito de trabalho e compreensão naqueles que nos observam e nos rodeiam, marchando, gradativamente, para a nossa emancipação integral, desde hoje.

Let us reflect, albeit superficially, in our less fortunate brothers, to gather them to the painful lesson.

Consider the disenchantment of those who piled coins for a long time, the accumulating sweat of similar, in praise of his own greed, and feel the approach of death, without a scrap of light that mitigates the woes in the darkness ...

Imagine the torment of that venerable charges exchanged by fanciful delusions, to awaken in the twilight of life, which were thrown unwittingly suffocating dryness of rugged wilderness.

Ponder the torture of those who abused the intelligence, recognizing the edge of the grave, the depressing results of the contempt with which trampled human dignity ...
